Journal #8 Jake Matt Zack Mickenzi

  1. Journal #8

Since introducing our survey regarding frequency of vigorous physical activity per week, we have gotten almost 90 responses! This is a good number because we are starting to notice a trend amongst the data. Now, this could be because of the number of people that have filled it out, so we will note the results now and compare them to when we have more people take the survey. The first question asks how many credit hours the user is taking, and the largest group is in the 15-16 credit hour group with 48% of the participants, followed by the 17-18 credit hour group at 34%. Next, we asked the cumulative gpa of the users. The largest two groups had gpa’s of 3.0-3.49 and 3.50-4.0 and the percentages were 39% and 37% respectively. The other 24% has a gpa of 2.50-2.99. From this, we can assume that the majority of those taking the survey have relatively high gpa’s, creating a more refined test group. Also, 99% of the users are not varsity athletes. This could be good for our research in that we know that the group does not train or exercise regularly for a competitive purpose. Next, we asked how many hours of moderate physical activity (with examples) that the users do and the majority was 50% in the 1-3 hours slot. We then asked how many hours the users do vigorous physical activity per week (with examples) and the majority was 50% in the category that said none. More than half of the test group spend 1-9 hours per week at a gym, McComas Hall or War Memorial Hall for exercise. As more data is gathered, we will be able to further distinguish a definite pattern. It may help to reinforce or reject the trend if we had more people with lower gpa’s take the survey. If we did and saw a major change in overall data, that means the trend would be true.
