The use of the guitar in the Jimi Hendrix album Are you Experienced? is both similar and different than the use in The Avett Brothers album The Carpenter. The banjo is an instrument that is known as something that is played with a lot of feeling, and the way Jimi Hendrix plays the guitar it is easy to tell that he puts all of his emotion into it. However, I do not feel that The Avett Brothers do not utilize the banjo and use that sound as compared to how much Jimi Hendrix uses his guitar.
I can see how both of these artists were most likely strongly influenced by the blues based on how their album sounds. Jimi Hendrix does not necessarily rely on a lot of lyrics to get his message across. Instead he likes to express what he is feeling through his guitar, but when he does sing you can really feel the emotion come out in his voice and it is very soulful. The Avett Brothers are almost the opposite, they seem to focus more on the lyrics instead of the music. This makes them similar to the blues since most of the blues music is expressed through the lyrics. Also, both of these artists like to tell a story in their songs and that is most likely due to their inspiration or background in blues music.
Lastly, it is very apparent in both albums that there is some kind of theme. This theme is a sense of hardship or being lost in life. Both artists talk about loss of love or feeling alone in the world with no hope. This theme is a direct correlation to how the blues are and again just shows that these artists must be strongly influenced by the blues because it clearly comes out in their own music.
