Brian Crittenden - Journal #5
We see students wearing coats and scarfs all bundled up, but as for us, we don't mind the cold. In fact, we go swimming frequently in what we consider our pond. This is home to us. We come here everyday to swim, eat fish, and just hang out. This is all that we know, and to be honest we are content with that. Our lives are simple, but we have everything we need here. A beautiful pond, a nice hang out spot, and open grass to walk around. From time to time, we see humans come with their fancy machines to look at our pond. We don't know what they are doing, but they don't bother us. In fact, sometimes they feed us, which is always a plus. This is where we live and it is such a beautiful place.
We surround the Duck Pond. For me, I have been near the pond for a good amount of time. I have seen many generations come and go, and yet I am still standing. I have so much history behind my construction, dating back to Revolutionary days. My importance must have been noticed because they even gave me a name, Solitude. I have noticed many people walk in and out of my doors. I now serve as offices for teachers. I have noticed the ducks in their natural habitat as well as individuals who care to experience the beauty of my location. Across the pond, there is another building that looks completely different from me. He is made of different kinds of stones. I think people go to him for classes or something like that. He is photoed above me, but I like where I'm at better.
Worn down, dreary, almost mysterious in a way. Yep, that's me. I once used to be a main part of the pond but after all these years I have been forgotten. Don't get me wrong, the pond is an amazing place to be located but I wonder if I even fit in any more. I can just tell people judge me when they visit. They're probably saying, "Look at this worn down thing." I don't know. I feel like they don't know how much history I have to tell. I have been here since as long as I can remember. I've seen many ducks come and go, and now some even use me as a place to hang out. I don't blame them. I may look worn down and dreary but I have a lot of history.
