I normally only see the bottom of people's feet. Sometimes people walk across me, or many of them run. I occasionally get some animal such as a duck or squirrel who also walk across. I like sunny, warm days better then rainy, cold days because I normally see more and have more visitors when it's nice weather. I am glad that I can provide a safe way for people to cross from bank to bank without getting wet, but I do admit it gets boring sometimes. I love it when people stop and stand on me for awhile to gaze over the side of me and have a conversation. I have heard many intimate, interesting, and amusing things over my years. I am afraid I am getting a little warn down, especially when people stand or lean on my banisters, but I am okay with it. I have an important job and I am thankful that I have been put in such a beautiful place. I love watching the water flow under me. I love hearing the ducks sing when they swim. I love seeing people play in the fields surrounding me and attempting to climb the trees. I ultimately have a great life!
Obviously we are important! After all, The Duck Pond was named after us! We can roam and go basically wherever we please. We can go swimming, or walk on the nice grass all around us, or go exploring new areas of the pond. Humans constantly try to feed us which we don't mind at all. Bread is our favorite! They can get too close sometimes and try to pet us or scare us, but for the most part, they are fine. It is also nice having so many friends! We like to travel together, play together, and eat together. Sometimes we need alone time, but we are all really good friends! We aren't sure how we feel about squirrels, but we ignore them for the most part. Living in Blacksburg, it does get cold sometimes, but we have each other to cuddle up next to and keep warm. There are also many shelters around that we can hide in. Maybe someday we will go off to some other place and see what other ponds there are and what other views we can get from the world, but for right now we are happy and content with the lives we have been getting. We love our home and all the scenery, freedom, visitors and friends that comes with it!
