Nazia Pasha Journal #5

Pylons/Statue POV: Our day consists of watching students rushing in and out of class, wearing coats, scarves, boots, all bundled up. As statues, we have no choice but to bear the cold and creep on everyone else’s lives. Day by day, we get students, or random older people, that come over and watch us, and take a bunch of pictures of us, pose with us, etc. We are like celebrities here at Virginia Tech, and we do not mind this attention at all. Even though we cannot really move, but fame does come with a price, doesn’t it? It is not as bad as you would think it would be, to be a part of the famous Pylons here on campus. You have no need to maintain yourself, and your life is exciting in that you live vicariously through the student’s experiences, and you get probably the most attention all over campus, sounds like a good deal to me!

Students POV: Being surrounded by the Pylons and their beauty, really gives you a sense as to how prestigious and how beautiful our school really is. The view of the Drill Field, the view of the beautiful Torgersen Bridge, it all just reminds you about how lucky you are to be here at this rich institution. The Pylons also remind you about the school’s unique history, and it’s longevity. It reminds you that no matter what this school has gone through, such as the April 16th massacre, the school remains united, and will always stand, just as the pylons do.

Memorial Court/ledge/bench POV: Couples come every now and then and sit on me and just stare out into the distance, confessing their love to one another. You would think that I would get sick of it, as much as I hear these sappy love stories, and cheesy lines, but actually, I feel the exact opposite. I appreciate the fact that I get to be in all of these couples lives; they will always look back to me, and the beautiful memory of the view they received from sitting on me, while snuggled up under their lovers arm. Not everyone gets to watch these beautiful moments, these beautiful beginnings, like I do. These moments are what I live for.
