I learned from this source that in comparison to breast cancer, lung cancer has not gained the awareness that it should. Now that I know this, I feel that my topic is more important, and this source has led me to question exactly how prominent and dangerous lung cancer is, and why it doesn’t have the awareness that it should. This new information strengthens my original view of my topic because, as presented in the data, lung cancer awareness isn’t as prominent as it should be, and this is relevant to my topic. The author is from a third person point of view, and the way that they talk makes it seem that they have little bias, as this is a purely statistical paper that focuses on data rather than opinion. This article could lead me into looking more on the emphasis placed on other cancers rather than lung cancer; however, I will have to do more research on what it the cancer with the lowest mortality rate.
This source was extremely helpful, and gave a lot of statistics on lung cancer as a whole from the 1990s until around 2000s. It helps actualize the increase in lung cancer over the years, and the increase in mortality rate. Now that I know this, I will be able to conduct more research based on these statistics, and I now know that my topic is relevant and can be a viable research topic due to the information I found. This source brought me to question whether these statistics are still accurate up to 2013, or if this has changed. Whether or not these statistics have changed could weaken my argument; however, this data is still important for my research. This will also support my questioning of awareness of this disease, because if this has grown to be one of the more dangerous cancers in our society, it leads me to question why we have not done more about it? The authors of this article are speaking from third person point of view, and they are obviously researchers in the field of lung cancer. Though this could make them biased, the statistics and graphs that they show seem accurate and not likely something that they could have made up. This gave great information, not only on lung cancer, but on other cancers as well, which was helpful. This makes me more set on my inquiry as lung cancer awareness as my main focus, and the importance of getting informed about it.
The first source seemed liked a good transition into the other cancers, however I didn't understand if the prostate cancer was actually discussed in the article or not. The analysis just kinda left me wondering. However, the second statistic based source relates a lot to the types of information that I have learned about for my topic. And the fact that you found them as helpful as I have creates optimism that your essay will be something I look forward to reading.
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a great topic to cover, and a very important question that more people should be asking. I am also doing a cancer related topic, but mine focuses more on the social effects these awareness movements bring onto the people afflicted. I wouldn't worry too much about the bias because just like with my topic many people seem to be very polarized on one side or another. My only suggestion is that if you are having trouble finding information with prostate cancer to just run the whole paper on lung cancer. I'm sure there is plenty of infor that could fill a paper.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you have decided on a main focus point. It's also good that you discovered how important your topic is. Once you get more research you will be set for your paper.
