Like
most kids how grew up in the USA, I learned to read and write the last few
years of preschool and the first few years of elementary school. Since then I
have enjoyed reading in and out of class. I enjoying reading mostly Science
Fiction and fantasy, and I am even taking Introduction to Science Fiction this semester.
My favorite books would have to be the Harry
Potter series and Eragon. I enjoy
how the Harry Potter shows the growth of Harry and his friends to accomplish
their goals. Eragon was a great
introduction to what could have been a fantastic series, but was let down by
some of the authors choices to answer the readers’ questions. For the most
part, I enjoyed the readings I had to do in high school. The only works I did
not like were the ones by Shakespeare, and that was just because they required
so much more work to understand than anything other book.
However,
I do not enjoying writing nearly as much as I do reading. I understand the importance
of it (to communicate ideas), but I do not enjoy putting my ideas into words
and often struggle to do so. I have gotten better with it over the years of
English classes, but like everyone else, I still need to keep working to
improve my writing to communicate the ideas I do have. For this reason, I took
English 1105 in the fall instead of going straight to English 1106. From that
class I was able to ease into college English. The class wasn’t difficult, but
it was a fair amount of work. I was able to learn what Professors expect from
their students when it comes to written assignments. In English 1106, I want to
continue to work on the concepts I learned in English 1105, but add in the
research element that is so important in the real world.
